The Midwest Collegiate Conference has announced its most recent weekly honors. Award winners were: Alan Douglas
(Men's Basketball - William Penn), Annie Smith
(Women's Basketball - St. Ambrose), Justin Kilpatrick
(Men's Indoor Track - Ashford), Tyler Wells
(Men's Indoor Field - Grand View), Obsie Birru
(Women's Indoor Track - Grand View) and Larissa Wilden
(Women's Indoor Field - Mount Mercy).
Alan Douglas - William Penn (Sr., Guard from Champaign, Ill.)
Douglas averaged 27.5 points and 9.5 rebounds and shot 50% from the field last week as the Statesmen won twice more. He scored a career high 39 points in Penn's triple overtime win over Ashford on Saturday.
Annie Smith - St. Ambrose (Sr., Forward from Davenport, Iowa)
Smith came off the bench to lead St. Ambrose in scoring and rebounding in both games last week. She recorded her seventh and eighth double-doubles of the year, averaging 20 points and 14.5 rebounds per game and shooting 59.3% from the field.
Men's Indoor Track
Justin Kilpatrick - Ashford (Fr., from Hazel Crest, Ill.)
Kilpatrick broke an AU school record in the 60-meter dash and surpassed the NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships qualifying barrier in the process.
Men's Indoor Field
Tyler Wells- Grand View (Sr., from Des Moines, Iowa)
Wells won the shot put with an NAIA ‘A' qualifying mark of 52 feet, 3 1/2 inches (15.94 meters) and placed second in the weight throw with a ‘B' standard throw of 54-5 1/4 (16.59m) at the Cornell Invitational, guiding the Vikings to the team title.
Women's Indoor Track
Obsie Birru - Grand View (Sr., from Des Moines, Iowa)Larissa Wilden - Mount Mercy (Jr., from Clinton, Iowa)
Birru won the 5,000 in an NAIA ‘A' qualifying time of 17:47.40 and anchored GVU's distance medley relay to a seventh place finish in an NAIA automatic qualifying time of 12:25.12 at the Iowa State Open on Friday night. She then returned to Iowa State on Saturday to place fifth in the mile with another automatic national qualifying time of 5:05.71 and placed eighth in the 800 with a ‘B' qualifying time of 2:20.04.
Women's Indoor Field
Wilden reached the NAIA ‘B' qualifying mark while winning the high jump and tying her personal best with a mark of 5-3 ¾ at the Cornell Invite.
