[Men's Basketball] Voting Open for AU's Jason Landry in College Slam Dunk Championship

CHICAGO - Ashford's senior guard Jason Landry is nominated for the "Dark Horse Dunker" competition, Intersport announced today. "Dark Horse Dunker" nominees are under-the-radar players who have what it takes to compete against the D-I field in New Orleans. The winner will participate in the Denny's Slam Dunk Competition at the State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships in New Orleans March 29 on ESPN. Sixteen dunkers have been selected to compete in the "Dark Horse Dunker" Facebook bracket which is a four-week knockout competition. Fans will determine the winner by voting during each round at the official Facebook page (Facebook.com/collegeslam).

[Women's Basketball] Vikings No. 8 in NAIA Women's Basketball Top 25 Poll

For the third straight week, the Grand View Vikings are inside the top 10 of the eighth regular-season edition of the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 Poll, the national office announced Monday.

Grand View is ranked as the No. 8 team in the NAIA Div II Poll, up one spot from last week. The Vikings have won eleven straight games, all in conference play, and are one of just two MCC teams in the top 25. Mount Mercy is also up one place in this week's poll, ranked as the No. 13 team. Iowa Wesleyan received votes.

CLINTON, Iowa - The Ashford University Athletics Department is set to induct the 2001-02 men's basketball team into the Athletic Hall of Fame this Saturday, Jan. 28, in between the women's and men's doubleheader against the Warriors of Waldorf College. The announcement will be made prior to the men's contest which is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.

Mike Kennedy took any individual suspense out of the game early. Needing just six points to reach 2,000 in his St. Ambrose University career entering Wednesday night's game at Viterbo, the senior forward needed just over two minutes to accomplish the task.

Kennedy scored the Bees' first six points, the final two coming on a fastbreak layup following a Chris Donnelly steal and assist just 2:02 into the game, to become just the fourth SAU men's basketball player to reach the milestone.

The game itself contained significantly more drama as the Bees were pushed to overtime after a late V-Hawk rally before escaping with a 70-69 win after Donnelly blocked a potential game-winning shot at the buzzer.

The Grand View women's basketball team moved up three spots in this week's edition of the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 Poll, the national office announced Monday.

GV went 2-0 last week and picked up two conference road wins at William Penn and Viterbo. The Vikings were one of two MCC teams in this week's poll. Mount Mercy moved up one place to No. 8.

The Viking women are among national leaders in 15 statistical categories, notably: free throw percentage (5^th-76%), field goal percentage (8^th-44.4%), assists per game (14^th-16.316), defensive rebounds per game (15^th-34.684), total assists (16^th-310), assist/turnover ratio (19^th-.868), and scoring offense per game (21^st-72.684). Individually, senior guard Jenn Jorgensen (Dayton, Iowa) leads the NAIA in points per game (23.947), total scoring (455), steals (68), and defensive rebounds per game (8.526).

As the 2011-12 college basketball season hits the midway point, the Midwest Collegiate Conference is well represented in the individual statistical rankings in NAIA Division II.

MCC women's basketball teams boast a pair of national leaders in individual statistical categories in the latest NAIA statistics. Going into games on Jan. 11, Grand View junior Jennifer Jorgensen is the leading scorer in the country, averaging 23.4 points per game. Iowa Wesleyan senior Anna Jones also ranks as the nation's leaders in steals, averaging 3.9 steals per game.
