SUBJECT: Women’s track and field all-conference honors announced

Des Moines, Iowa – The Midwest Classic Conference announces its women’s track and field all-conference honors. Seventeen women’s track and field conference champions were recognized as members of the all-conference team.

Mount Mercy senior Christine French (Central City, Ia.) was named the MCC Women’s Track and Field Outstanding Performer at the MCC Meet. French won the 400m Hurdles and was a member of the winning 4x100m and 4x400m Relay teams.

"Christine is very deserving of this award.  She has worked very hard, in the classroom and on the track, to get where she is today.  Competing in eight individual events and two relays in just over 24 hours is very demanding for any athlete.  She did a great job taking care of her legs and doing the little things to be ready for the next event.  She will be greatly missed on the team next year," said Mount Mercy head coach Ryan Scheckel.

Scheckel was selected as the MCC Women’s Track and Field Coach of the Year.  In his fifth year at Mount Mercy, Scheckel led the Mustangs to their third consecutive MCC title.

“Coach Scheckel has done a great job with our track program as evidenced by three conference championships for the women.  He does a great job with both the cross country and track programs and deserves this award,” said Mount Mercy athletic director Don McCormick.
