SAU Signs Golfer Danny Nelson
Davenport, IA - St. Ambrose University Men’s Golf Coach Jeff Griebel is excited to announce the signing of one of the top high school golfers from Northern Illinois.
Danny Nelson, a senior at Princeton High School (Illinois) has signed a letter of intent and will attend St. Ambrose in the fall 2006. He is the son of Wanda & Tom Nelson of Princeton, Illinois.
During his high school career at Princeton, Nelson was medalist in four tournaments and was named his high school teams Most Valuable Player in 2004 & 2005. He was named
Captain of the Princeton boy’s golf team his senior year and qualified for the Illinois High School Golf Class A State Championship finishing in 10th place in 2003 and 14th in 2005.
Nelson was named the LaSalle News Tribune Boys golfer of the Year for 2005/06. He
was the NCIC conference medalist in 2003/04 and the regional champion in 2004/05.
He posted a 37.0 stroke average in competitive matches his senior season at Princeton.
“We are very pleased to have a player the caliber of Danny Nelson joining our golf
program next season, “ said Coach Griebel. “He has played for a very talented and successful high school program at Princeton and will bring experience and confidence to our team next fall.”
Nelson will be joining a St. Ambrose golf team that has won the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Region 7 Championship and qualified for the NAIA National Golf Tournament fourteen of the last sixteen years. St. Ambrose had a school record 3rd place team finish at the 2004 NAIA Men’s Golf National Championship in Olathe, Kansas. They are currently ranked 16th in the NAIA Men’s Golf National Poll.
