MUSTANG WOMEN'S GOLF TEAM EARNS NATIONAL TOURNAMENT BERTH

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Mount Mercy College women's golf team will make
its ninth national tournament appearance after receiving an at-large bid
to the 12th Annual NAIA Women's Golf National Championships May 23-26 at
Blackthorn Golf Club in South Bend, Ind.

The 20th-ranked Mustangs, who qualified for eight straight national
meets from 1995-2002, are part of a 23-team, 120-player field led by
defending national champion Oklahoma City University and their 2005
medalist, Emily Albrektson.

Mount Mercy is led by all-region and all-conference standouts Laura
Salmon and Jill Smith. Salmon (Winona, Minn./Senior H.S.), a junior,
leads the Mustangs at 81.82 strokes per round. She was second at the
2005 NAIA Region VII Meet, third at the 2005 Midwest Classic Conference
Tournament and is on pace for the best single season scoring average in
school history.

Smith (Aurelia, Iowa/Aurelia H.S.), a senior, is the team's
second-leading scorer at 86.29 strokes per round. She placed fifth at
the regional meet and sixth at the MCC tournament.

Also competing for Mount Mercy will be juniors Michelle Puls and Kelly
Murphy and freshman Rachael Koenigsberg. Puls (Grinnell, Iowa/Grinnell
H.S.) is fourth on the squad in scoring (91.35), Murphy (Manchester,
Iowa/West Delaware H.S.) is fifth (95.11) and Koenigsberg (Sheffield,
Iowa/SCMT H.S.) is sixth (98.64).

The national meet will be the final tournament for Don McCormick, the
first and only women's golf coach in school history. McCormick, who will
retire this summer, has led the Mustangs to six conference titles and
nine national tournaments in 14 years.
