Saint Ambrose wins MCC Women's Golf Championship

October 3 – Valley Oaks Golf Course, Clinton, Iowa

Saint Ambrose University used solid performances from Emily Petruccelli (79) and Emily Dean (85) to build a first day lead of ten strokes over rival Mount Mercy College.  Day two was more of a struggle, as SAU had to use two scores in the 90’s, but held on to win the Midwest Classic Conference Championship.  The Championship is SAU’s 4th in row, and the future seems to be bright for the Bee’s with five of their top six players either freshmen or sophomores.  New SAU Coach Mike Orfitelli likes the toughness of his team, and feels good about their chances at regionals next week at Bonnie Brooke Golf Course near Chicago.  “We tried to focus on battling the course rather than the other teams.  Golf is like life in many respects, you go through up and downs, face all kinds of challenges and how you respond dictates your success.  The quality of Women’s golf in the MCC and region VII has risen dramatically over the last few years, that said, I feel that we have an outstanding chance to compete for the Regional Title next week”.

Final Team Results :

Saint Ambrose (690) was followed by Mount Mercy (698), Waldorf (717), Grand View (754), Iowa Wesleyan (800) and Ashford (902).

Bruckhoff was deemed MCC Coach of the Year. Bruckhoff,  a Waldorf alum and former Warrior golfer, is in his second season as head coach at Waldorf.  “This is a nice honor for Jason, the golf program, the Athletic Department and Waldorf College.  Jason has worked hard to turn the golf program around and has done it in a short time.  I am confident with his leadership and contribution level the program will only get better.  I am proud of his work,” said Waldorf Athletic Director Denny Jerome.
