Iowa Wesleyan's Turner Wins Third Consecutive National Discus Title
Fresno, CA – Iowa Wesleyan College junior Floyd Turner (Maywood, IL) joined an elite group in claiming his third consecutive national title in the discus – and left no doubt about it – Saturday afternoon at the NAIA Men’s Outdoor Track and Field National Championships at Fresno Pacific University Track. Turner launched a winning throw of 182 feet, five inches on his fourth attempt of the competition. It was his best toss of the 2006 season and just a shade shy of his school-record mark of 184-2, which he set at the national championships last season. [More]
Viterbo University Names DeLong New Softball Coach
La Crosse, WI - Viterbo University announced today that Ryan DeLong has been named the Head Softball Coach. DeLong becomes the tenth coach in Viterbo history and takes over for Jaimi Dutton who left to take a position as director of sales for the Kahler Grand Hotel in Rochester, MN. “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to expand my role here at Viterbo University,” commented DeLong. “I have always enjoyed coaching softball and am excited to have the opportunity to coach it at the college level.” [More]
McCormick Named MCC'S Top Administrator
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Mount Mercy College's Don McCormick is the inaugural recipient of the Midwest Classic Conference Athletics Director of the Year award, the league announced today.
McCormick spearheaded a $60,000 fundraising effort for the Mount Mercy athletic department that included major improvements to Hennessey Recreation Center. The gymnasium was upgraded with a Daktronics scoreboard system and scoring tables, as well as a redesigned playing surface. A new batting cage and lift system for baseball and softball was also installed.

Reisinger Named Director of Athletics at Mount Mercy College
Cedar Rapids, IA - Scot Reisinger, athletic director at the College of Notre Dame (Md.), has been selected as Mount Mercy College's director of athletics, President-elect Christopher Blake announced Thursday. He will begin work on Aug. 1. Reisinger (pronounced REE-singer), one of three finalists following a national search, has been athletic director at the Baltimore, Md., institution for the past five years. The College of Notre Dame is an NCAA Division III program in the Atlantic Women's College Conference. [More]
SAU Men's Golf Team 4th at National Tourney; Chuipek 1st Team All-American
Olathe, KS - The St. Ambrose University Men’s Golf Team capped a great 2005-06 season with a fourth place finish at the NAIA Men’s Golf National Tournament held May 16th to 19th at Prairie Highlands Golf Club in Olathe, Kansas. The Fighting Bee linksters finished 30 strokes behind Oklahoma City University who won their fifth national title in the last six years. Defending 2005 national champions Johnson & Wales University of Miami, Florida, finished second, 14 shots ahead of St. Ambrose. Oklahoma Christian University was third, 13 shots ahead of St. Ambrose. Midwest Classic All-Conference Baseball Honors Announced
Des Moines, IA - The Midwest Classic Conference announces its 2006 baseball all-conference honors. Eighteen athletes were recognized as part of the all-conference teams as voted by the coaches. William Penn senior outfielder Ryan Jimenez (San Bernardino, Calif.) was voted as the MCC Player of the Year. Jimenez led the Statesmen with a .433 batting average , 68 hits , 10 doubles, 3 triples, 51 runs, a .650 slugging percentage, .548 on-base percentage, 102 total bases, 8-of-10 stolen bases, 30 walks, and added 6 home runs and 36 RBI. William Penn head coach Mike Laird was selected as the MCC Coach of the Year. SAU Women's Golf Team Finishes 20th at Nationals
South Bend, IN -
SAU took home 20th place out of 23 teams at last week's NAIA National Tournament. The Queen Bees shot a four day score of 1373, which was 20 strokes behind 19th place Concordia (Ore.) Oklahoma City won the Tournament with a four-round score of 1215.
Emily Petruccelli (Davenport, Iowa/North) and Nicole Keeney (Davenport, Iowa/West) each finished with a team high of 46-over-par, which was good enough to tie for 58th place in the individual competition. Denise Harder (Indianola, Iowa) earned one of four Character Act Awards for her display of character during the National Tournament.
Goose Lake Native Bethany Mahmens to Play at Ashford University
The Ashford University women’s basketball program has announced the signing of Bethany Mahmens, a native of Goose Lake, IA who prepped at Northeast High School. Mahmens, the daughter of Mark and Shelly Mahmens, plans to major in a business related field focusing on marketing and public relations. [Complete Release]
MMC Women Claim 3rd Consecutive Track & Field Title; SAU Wins Men's Title
Dubuque, IA - Led by senior Christine French and junior Liz Lange, the Mount Mercy College women won their third straight MCC Track and Field titleat the MCC Championships held at the University of Dubuque. French, who won the 400 meter hurdles and helped the Mustangs win 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay crowns, was named 2006 Women's Most Outstanding Performer. Mount Mercy's Ryan Scheckel earned 2006 Women's Coach of the Year honors. Five Mount Mercy women, including French, were champions at the MCC meet. Midwest Classic All-Conference Softball Honors Announced
Des Moines, Iowa - The Midwest Classic Conference announces its 2006 softball all-conference honors. Eighteen athletes were recognized as part of the all-conference teams as voted by the coaches. Iowa Wesleyan College junior third basemen Kate Ward (Baylis, Ill.) was voted as the MCC Player of the Year. Ward is a transfer from John Woods Community College. She is currently batting .438 with an .837 slugging percentage. Ward led the league this season in batting percentage, run scored (51), RBI (57), home runs (15), total bases (128), and was second in hits (67). Waldorf College junior pitcher Marisa Jensen (Forest City, Ia.) was voted the MCC Pitcher of the Year. Jensen is 17-3 this season and tops the MCC with a 0.64 ERA. She has struck out a league-leading 220 batters in 142.2 innings pitched. Grand View head coach Lou A. Yacinich was selected by his peers as the MCC Coach of the Year. Twenty-three men’s track and field conference champions were recognized as members of the all-conference team.Sophomore Aaron Burns (Lombard, Ill.) of Ashford University was selected as Men’s Track and Field Outstanding Performer at the MCC Meet. Burns won the High Jump, Triple Jump, and was a member of the winning 4x100 relay team. St. Ambrose University head coach Brianne Appel was selected as the MCC Men’s Track and Field Coach of the Year.
