ASHFORD SIGNS TWO FOR WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PROGRAM
The Ashford University women’s basketball program has announced the signing of two student-athletes. Joining the Saints next season will be Roni Connelly, who prepped at Washington (IA) High School, and Amara Ward, a native of Fulton, IL
Connelly is a 5’6” guard who averaged 7.8 points a game while playing at Washington High School. “Roni’s season was cut short by a knee injury last year, but we are looking forward to her contributions to our team this upcoming season,” commented Ashford’s head coach, Chris Powers. Connelly is the daughter of Ron and Karen Connelly and will major in Sports and Recreation Management at Ashford.
Ward is a 5’7” guard who prepped at Fulton High School under the guidance of Coach Amanda Medema. She received the three-point award and served as her team’s captain. “Amara is a very intense player who enjoys playing the game of basketball. I’m glad that she decided to stay close to home and continue her career at Ashford,” said Coach Powers. Ward is the daughter of Chris and Dawn Ward and plans to major in Graphic Arts.
