ASHFORD HIRES NEW SOFTBALL COACH

Clinton, IA– Stephanie Christner has been hired as the head softball coach at Ashford University. Christner started working at Ashford December 5.

A May 2005 graduate of William Penn University, Christner was recently serving as the assistant volleyball and softball coach there.

During her time at William Penn, she was a first team all-American pitcher and Midwest Classic Conference pitcher of the year. Last year she led her William Penn team to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) national tournament.

Besides being an outstanding athlete, she earned valuable coaching experience as the head varsity coach for three years at Cardinal of Eldon High School. There, she coached her team to state championships in 2003 and 2004. Her team received seventh place honors in 2005.

According to Meg Schebler, the University’s Athletics Director, Christner “is the perfect fit for Ashford University softball. She is very familiar with the Conference, knows the NAIA rules and regulations, and obviously has coaching success with two state championships under her belt. She has the enthusiasm and experience to recruit top student-athletes to our softball program.”

Christner will also serve as the University’s assistant volleyball coach next year.
