Bettendorf's Hayward Signs With Fighting Bees
St. Ambrose University Men’s Football Coach Todd Sturdy is excited to announce the signing of one of the top high school football players in the state of Iowa.
Mike Hayward, a senior at Bettendorf High School (IA.) has signed a letter of intent and will attend St. Ambrose in the fall 2006. He is the son of Kathy and Mike Hayward of Davenport, Iowa.
Hayward was selected to the 2005 Mississippi Athletic Conference Football 1st team as quarterback and punter. He was also named 2nd team all metro quarterback. Hayward’s all state honors his senior year (2005) included being named 2nd team all state punter and 3rd team all state quarterback.
“We are very pleased to have a player the caliber of Mike Hayward joining our football program next season, “ said Coach Sturdy. “He is, in my opinion, one of the best quarterbacks to come out of the Quad City area in many years and we are excited that he has made the decision to attend St. Ambrose. He will be a great player for us over the next four years!”
Hayward will be joining a St. Ambrose football team that has won the Mid-States Football Association Conference title four of the last six years. The football squad has qualified for the NAIA national playoff’s five times in the last six years.
