SUBJECT: Housken Commits to Grand View Soccer Program

Des Moines, IA – Amanda Housken (Huxley, Iowa) has signed a letter of intent to join the Viking women's soccer program in the fall of 2006. Housken is an accomplished forward/midfielder from Gilbert High School. The Gilbert soccer team qualified for the state tournament in 2002, 2003, and 2004. In 2002, they placed second. Housken was a member of the all-tournament team at the state tournament in 2004; she was voted first team all-state in 2003 and 2004, first team all-conference in 2002 and 2003 and second team all-conference in 2004 in the Mid-Iowa Soccer League.

 

In club soccer play, Housken was a member of the Ames Select Lazers team that won the State Cup Tournament in 1998 and 1999. In 2000, Housken played for the state cup champion Des Moines Select Des Moines United team.

 

In addition to her athletic achievements, Housken excels off the field and in the classroom. An honor roll student, Housken was recognized with Academic Achievement awards by the Iowa Girl’s High School Athletic Union in 2002, 2003, and 2004.


“Amanda is a very talented player with pure soccer intuition and great vision.  She is offensive minded player with good skills, speed and goal scoring ability. Amanda has been a member of a very successful program at Gilbert High School and has good club experience as well," said Grand View head coach Ventsi Stoimirov.

 

Housken is the daughter of Rick Housken of Ames and Gail O’Connor of Huxley. She plans to study Business Administration while at Grand View.
