The Midwest Collegiate Conference has announced its weekly honors. Receiving honors were: John Darmody (Men's Cross Country - St. Ambrose), Obsie Birru (Women's Cross Country - Grand View), Petar Triva (Men's Soccer Offensive Player - Mount Mercy), Luke Van Meveren (Men's Soccer Defensive Player - Clarke), Chelsea Fisher (Women's Soccer Offensive Player - Ashford), Kaylee Steen (Women's Soccer Defensive Player - Clarke), Morgan Bailey (Volleyball Player - William Penn), Tara Van Zuiden (Volleyball Libero - Ashford), Liz Gbur (Volleyball Setter - Ashford), Ashley Shields (Volleyball Hitter - Clarke) and Brittany Boon and Jordan Davis (Women's Golf - Ashford).
Men's Cross Country
John Darmody - St. Ambrose (Jr., from Seattle, Wash.)
Darmody finished ninth of 137 runners and established a personal best in the 6K with a time of 20:17 at the Central College Dutch Invitational on Saturday.
Women's Cross Country
Obsie Birru - Grand View (Jr., from Des Moines, Iowa)
Birru set a new school record in the 4K with a time of 14:51 to win the Mount Mercy Mustang Gallop.
Men's Soccer Offensive Player
Petar Triva - Mount Mercy (Sr., Forward from Split, Croatia)
Triva scored four goals in the Mustangs' 7-2 win over Rockford last week set a new school single-game record.
Men's Soccer Defensive Player
Luke Van Meveren - Clarke (Soph., Goalkeeper from Monticello, Minn.)
Van Meveren picked up two shutout wins last week as the Crusaders defeated Wisconsin-Platteville and Lawrence (Wis.) University.
Women's Soccer Offensive Player
Chelsea Fisher - Ashford (Soph., Midfielder from Calgary, Alberta, Canada)
Fisher scored a pair of goals last week, including the only goal in the Saints' 1-0 win over Seina Heights (Mich.).
Women's Soccer Defensive Player
Kaylee Steen - Clarke (Soph., Goalkeeper from Hermantown, Minn.)
Steen posted a pair of shutouts last week and made 13 saves over three matches with a 0.67 goals against average as the Crusaders won two of three matches.
Volleyball Player
Morgan Bailey - William Penn (Sr., Outside Hitter from Oskaloosa, Iowa)
Bailey had double figures in kills in three of the Lady Statesmen's five matches last week, including a high of 15 kills against Davenport (Mich.) University.
Volleyball Libero
Tara Van Zuiden - Ashford (Sr., from Albany, Ill.)
Van Zuiden averaged 5.72 digs per game and had just one receiving error over five matches as the Saints went 4-1 last week.
Volleyball Setter
Liz Gbur - Ashford (Soph., from Delavan, Ill.)
Gbur averaged 5.28 assists per game and added 1.61 digs per game as the Saints won four of five matches last week.
Volleyball Hitter
Ashley Shields - Clarke (Sr., Middle Hitter from Harvard, Ill.)
Shields had 52 kills over three matches, including 27 kills in the Crusaders' five-set loss to Robert Morris (Ill.).
Women's Golf
Brittany Boon - Ashford (Jr., from Bloomington, Ill.)
Jordan Davis - Ashford (Sr., from Delmar, Iowa)
Boon and Davis teamed up to finish first as a pair at the Mount Mercy Four-Ball Classic with rounds of 72 on Day 1 and 77 on the second day. The two also helped the Saints finish second of eight teams at the tourney.
