Spencer inked a contract with the Lake County Fielders of the Northern League, the oldest independent league in the United States, beginning in 1902. The Fielders, owned by movie star Kevin Costner, are based in Gurnee, Ill.
A 2009 NAIA First-Team All-American, Spencer was 11-0 with a 2.45 Earned Run Average in 102 2/3 innings of work. The Midwest Collegiate Conference Pitcher of the Year struck out 89 batters in his lone navy blue and gold campaign.
Spencer returned to Penn this past year as a student assistant coach.
"I really enjoyed my time at Penn and met a lot of really good people," Spencer said.
"Micah worked as hard as anyone we had, not to mention the fact he is very talented," William Penn Baseball Coach Mike Laird said. "It is no surprise that he is playing professionally."
Spencer becomes the second Statesmen pitcher to sign a contract with a Northern League organization, joining fellow 2009 senior Joey Grant, who agreed to terms with the Gary (Ind.) Railcats in May.
