Mount Mercy's Jenna Higgins
DES MOINES, Iowa -- Freshman Jenna Higgins already made history for Mount Mercy this spring, but this week, she will do it again when she competes at the USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Drake Stadium.
Higgins will throw the javelin at the USA Track & Field event, which features the top 19-and-under talent in the nation. She is the first Mustang ever to compete at the USATF junior outdoor championships. This comes on the heels of her runner-up finish in the javelin at last month's NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Marion, Ind.
Higgins became Mount Mercy's third NAIA track & field all-American, and her second-place effort was the best ever for a Mustang at nationals. It was a school-record toss that pushed her into all-America status.
The USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships run June 23-27, with the women's javelin throw scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Friday. For a schedule of events, live results, Webcasts, videos, and more, check out the USATF Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships Web site.
