Oskaloosa--William Penn baseball coach Mike Laird is a winner and that has been proven over and over throughout his 28-year collegiate coaching career and on Thursday night he proved that once again as he became a member of a very elite society--the 800-Win Club.

Laird, who owns a current collegiate record of 800-360-3 (.689 winning pct.) in his 28th year at Penn, becomes just the 15th coach in NAIA history to reach the mark.

The eight-time conference Coach of the Year, he has led the Statesmen program to nine league titles and 21 total postseason tournaments. In his 27 previous seasons, Penn has had just three losing seasons and only one since the 1986 campaign.

In addition to an NAIA World Series appearance in 2004 with a school-record 48 wins, Laird's squads have eclipsed the 20-win plateau in all but three seasons. He has never not reached double digits in victories and has coached 94 all-conference players, ten conference MVPs, and 22 All-Americans.

Penn is 16-10 this year with a 7-3 Midwest Collegiate Conference record.
