The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) has selected Nathan Teymer of Southern Polytechnic State University as the 2010 RUSSELL ATHLETIC/WBCA National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Coach of the Year. Teymer becomes the 26th coach to receive this accolade, which has been selected by the WBCA since 1985.

"The WBCA is delighted to present Nathan Teymer with the RUSSELL ATHLETIC/WBCA National NAIA Coach of the Year award," said WBCA CEO Beth Bass. "Nathan Teymer, selected for the award by his peers, has had an outstanding 2010 season and is deserving of being honored for his success."

Teymer has spent the last five seasons at SPSU and has brought the team from the bottom of the league to one of the premier teams in their conference. This year the 18th ranked Hornets are participating in the NAIA Division I National Championship Tournament for the first time in the program's history. The Southern States Athletic Conference champions went 29-4 this season in route to winning the school's first conference championship. This was also the first year that the women's basketball team has had a 20-win season.
Teymer has been steadily growing the Hornets program since he first arrived on campus. His teams have improved each year with records of 5-22 (2005-06), 18-14 (2006-07), 18-13 (2007-08), and 19-13 (2008-09).

Prior to his arrival on the Southern Polytechnic campus, Teymer spent two seasons at Shorter College as assistant men's basketball coach. Teymer also had assistant coaching stints at Georgia Southwestern State University and Grand View College.

Teymer was a member of the Grand View College basketball team from 1995 to 1999 and received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Secondary Education from Grand View in 1999. In 2002, he received his Master's of Education in Health and Physical Education from Georgia Southwestern.

"RUSSELL ATHLETIC has been a part of millions of athletes and coaches lives for over a hundred years. We've seen our share of ups and downs, but like so many coaches, with dedication, sacrifice and hard work, RUSSELL ATHLETIC has continued to transcend generations," saidGary Barfield, Executive Vice President, RUSSELL ATHLETIC. "That is why RUSSELL ATHLETIC is proud to honor Nathan Teymer as the 2010 recipient of the RUSSELL ATHLETIC/WBCA National NAIA Coach of the Year award. Nathan embodies the true meaning of our belief: proven on the field of play."

Teymer is one of six RUSSELL ATHLETIC/WBCA National Coaches of the Year selected, which also names winners for each of the other four WBCA collegiate divisions (NCAA Divisions I, II, III and JC/CC) as well as high school. The winner is selected through a two-level process. The first level is by region, in which coaches from each WBCA geographical region vote for their respective top coach. Teymer, having received the most votes in WBCA NAIA Region 6, advanced as a finalist to the national level of the selection process along with the other four Regional Coaches of the Year in the NAIA division.
