La Crosse, Wis. - Viterbo University men's basketball player Scott Buschman (Sr. - Naperville, Ill.) capped off his V-Hawk career by being named one of the top ten players in the country as he was named to the 2009-10 NAIA Division-II All-American First Team announced today by NAIA sports information director Chad Waller.

This is the second straight season that Buschman has been recognized as an All-American as he received honorable mention All-American honors as a junior. This year's honor comes just weeks after being named Midwest Collegiate Conference Player of the Year and helping lead the V-Hawks to a share of the MCC Conference title. It was the team's first title since wining it in 1998.

Individually, Buschman had one of the best seasons of any V-Hawk over the last decade. Offensively, Buschman led the V-Hawks and the MCC in scoring by averaging 20.4 points per game. He also ranked tops in rebounding (11.3 rpg) and double-doubles (23) in the MCC and the NAIA. The 23 double-doubles included a streak where he recorded double figures in points and rebounds for 15 straight games.

Buschman's stellar V-Hawk career comes to an end after finishing among the tops in several categories in the V-Hawk record books. Earlier this season, he became the first player to have more than 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds as he finished his career with 2007 points (16.5 ppg) and 1,158 rebounds (9.5 rpg). The point total is the third most by a V-Hawk while the rebound total is a school record. He also set school career records in blocks (118) and double-doubles (61).

The honor is just the second time in school history that a V-Hawk men's basketball player has been named to the All-America First Team. Troy Wagner was the last player to earn such an honor when he was named a First Team All-American in 1995. The NAIA awards ten players from across the country to the first team and also recognizes another ten individuals for the second and third teams as well.
