Jessi Beachey: MCC WBB Player of the Year
Mount Pleasant, Iowa - The Midwest Collegiate Conference has announced its women's basketball all-conference honors for the 2009-10 season. Twenty-one athletes were recognized as part of the all-conference teams as voted by the coaches, including 10 to the First Team and 11 to the Honorable Mention Team.

Iowa Wesleyan junior forward Jessi Beachey (Fisher, Ill.) picked up honors as the MCC Player of the Year and MCC Newcomer of the Year. Beachey came in as a transfer from Parkland Community College in Champaign, Ill., and led the MCC in scoring (17.7 points per game) and was second in field goal percentage (58.3%). She also was fourth in the conference in free throw percentage (78.8%) and seventh in blocked shots (0.8 blocks per game). Beachey also averaged 5.8 rebounds per game (13th in MCC) and helped the Tigers to the MCC regular season and tournament championships and a berth in the NAIA Division II National Tournament. She did so while playing with a torn meniscus in her knee since January, missing two games during the season and overall averaging 24.8 minutes per game.

"Jessi is without a doubt one of the best players to ever play here at Iowa Wesleyan," said IWC Head Coach Steve Williamson. "She has had an amazing season and is a big reason why we have had the success we have had. She is very deserving of this honor especially when you think about the stats she put up while playing limited minutes due to her injury. Jessi made a huge impact on our team and in our conference this year."

Williamson also was chosen by his peers as the MCC Coach of the Year after leading IWC to the regular season and postseason tourney titles. It was the second year in a row and third time in his six years as Wesleyan coach that Williamson has won the award. This season in addition to the conference titles, Williamson also has led the Tigers to a school record-tying 25 wins as well as the highest ranking (13th) in the NAIA Division II national coaches' poll in school history.

"Steve has worked very hard to build and now maintain the women's basketball program at Iowa Wesleyan," said IWC Athletic Director Mike Hampton. "He and his athletes have put in a lot of time and work to achieve their goals. All of Iowa Wesleyan congratulates Steve on this award as voted on by his peers."
