The 2009-10 Midwest Collegiate Conference softball preseason poll has been released, and Grand View has been tabbed as a narrow favorite over William Penn and Mount Mercy in the vote of league coaches.

The Vikings finished with 72 points to place just ahead of William Penn (70 points) and Mount Mercy (67 points). GVU also finished with four first-place votes and was one of four teams to receive at least one first-place vote. William Penn and Mount Mercy both were named favorites on two ballots, while Waldorf, which came in fourth in the poll with 59 points, also received one first-place vote.

Grand View finished 35-19 overall last season and third in the MCC with a 20-8 record. The Vikings return a total of five players who received all-conference recognition last year, including four players who were named First Team All-MCC.

"It is an honor to be the preseason favorite for softball in the MCC," said Grand View Head Coach Lou Yacinich. "It is a quality softball conference. We know we have to prove that we deserve that honor every day. It has given us an extra incentive to continue to improve all aspects of our program. We will definitely feel the effect of everyone's best shot when we play on the field. We look forward to the challenges the MCC will present."
