Oskaloosa--The Statesmen basketball team has not lost since November of the last calendar year and its current hot streak has helped it climb as the fourth NAIA Division II Men's Basketball poll was released today.
Penn (15-3, 4-0 MCC), winners of six in a row, moves four places to #9 in the nation with 323 points. The Statesmen are the second-highest ranked team in Iowa behind #8 Briar Cliff (330 points).
Defending national champion Oklahoma Wesleyan is the only remaining undefeated team in Division II (14-0) and continues to be the top program with 436 points and all 16 first-place votes. Walsh (Ohio) is again second, while Northwood (Fla.) is third, Bethel (Ind.) is fourth, and Indiana-Southeast rounds out the top five in fifth.
Fellow Midwest Collegiate Conference program Grand View also made a solid jump, up to 11th in the NAIA. Mount Mercy, also out of the MCC, is 34th unofficially, while Northwestern represents the state as well in a tie for 39th.
Penn returns to action Wednesday when it hosts St. Ambrose in MCC action at 7:30 p.m.
