The Vikings men's basketball moved up six spots and is ranked as the No. 11 team in the nation in the fourth edition of the 2009-2010 NAIA Division II Men's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 poll, announced Monday by the NAIA office. The team has received plenty of attention this season in the polls, but now they are beginning to rank high in numerous NAIA categories.
Grand View (15-3, 4-1 MCC) ranks in the top 20 in several team and individual categories.Most impressively, the Vikings rank second in the country in scoring defense per game, allowing only 61.06 points a contest. Also, the Vikings are ranked 13th in the nation in field goal percentage defense at 39.8 percent. The final team ranking is in the assist-to-turnover ratio category, where the Vikings are currently 13th in the nation.
Two of Grand View's top players also find themselves ranked among the nation's best in the overall conference rankings.
Corey Viet (Sr., Ackley, Iowa) ranks 20th in scoring average at 21.4 points per game in the five conference contests and ranks 10th nationally in overall free throw percentage at 86.1 percent.
Grant Burns (Sr. Monroe, Iowa)) ranks 5th nationally in assists per game in the five conference contests.
