Mount Mercy had three all-MCC performers lead them to the title
Oskaloosa, Iowa--Mount Mercy added to an already impressive hardware collection with its fourth-straight title at the 2009 MCC Women's Cross Country Championships Saturday at the Lacey Sports Complex.
Grand View's Obsie Birru claimed her second-consecutive MCC Harrier of the Year award by winning the 5K race in a time of 18:25.
Bea Foley of Viterbo (2nd, 19:44), Brooke Ashcraft of St. Ambrose (3rd, 19:51), Erin Behan of Mount Mercy (4th, 20:08), Kori Yotter of Mount Mercy (5th, 20:15), Chelsea Kvidera of Mount Mercy (6th, 20:18), and Rosemary Loken of Viterbo (7th, 20:22) rounded out the women's All-Conference Team.
The Mustangs won the crown with 34 points, while Viterbo was second with 63 points and St. Ambrose was third with 67 points. Grand View was fourth with 80, Clarke was fifth with 150, Ashford was sixth with 186, William Penn was seventh with 187, and Iowa Wesleyan was eighth with 217.
Mount Mercy will now represent the MCC at the NAIA Cross Country National Championships on Saturday, November 21 in Vancouver, Wash. Five other individuals from the conference will also compete, including Birru, Foley, Ashcraft, Loken, and Lauren Cleary of St. Ambrose.
