Incoming Clarke baseball players Jesse Cummings and Jared Munson will be taking a trip of a lifetime in July. The two junior transfers from Olympic College in Bremerton, Wash, will be traveling to Italy to play for USA Athletes International for nine days.
 

On July 18, the two will head to Rome with the other members of their team where they will Jesse Cummingsbegin the trip with a couple of days of sight-seeing. According to their coach, Matt Vince, the team will visit the Vatican and The Colosseum before playing any games. After Rome, the group will visit the Tuscany Region where they will visit the Leaning Tower of Pisa before heading to Florence where they will have the opportunity to see one of Michelangelo's most famous works, "David."

All the while, the team will be stopping in different communities and playing local baseball teams. According to Vince, communities in Italy have teams based on ability and should be good competition for the team from the United States.

Munson and Cummings are both extremely excited for this opportunity.

Jaren Muson"I don't really know what to expect," said Munson. "But I know this is a once in a lifetime opportunity and will stay with me the rest of my life." Munson is a two-time all conference outfielder for Olympic College and is originally from Reno, Nev.

Cummings, a native of Kingston, Wash, said he is looking forward to the whole experience.

"The trip to Italy will be an amazing experience," said Cummings. "It is an opportunity to play baseball in a completely new environment against good competition. Not only will we be playing baseball, but it will also give us a chance to explore and experience different parts of the country."

Cummings was a second team all-conference performer at Olympic College in 2009, hitting .367 with 28 RBI's.

According to its Web site, USA Athletes International is an organization which allows amateur athletes and coaches an opportunity to compete in international Olympic-style competitions while also getting an opportunity to experience other cultures.
