Oskaloosa--As part of the NAIA's Champions of Character initiative, several members of the William Penn volleyball team volunteered their time at the local YMCA on Wednesday, April 1.
Team members spent several hours at the facility, playing in the gym, reading to the younger day care children, and also raking leaves and cleaning up the outdoor playgrounds.
Players bagged up trash and leaves, helping the staff at the YMCA to have the playgrounds safe and usable for the outdoor season.
"We like to get our team out in the community each semester to do a service project," Lady Statesmen Head Coach Jeremy Wise said. "We feel it is important to help out and support the community we live in. We appreciated all the community support we received this year, especially at our home matches, so this was our way of giving back."
Members in attendance were Coach Wise, Shantelle Brown, Sandra Silvera, Caitlin Hadden, Jessica Pettingill, Katie Zunick, Morgan Bailey, Emily Stanton, Heather Brandenburg, Katy Hingtgen, and Moriah Curry.
