Johnson City, Tenn.--Katie Burnett (So., Mesa, Ariz., Arizona) became just the second Indoor Track and Field All-American in Penn history at the 2009 NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships Friday.

Burnett placed fifth in the 3,000-meter race walk event in a time of 15:58.16. She becomes the fifth All-American in Lady Statesmen track and field history and the first since Na Onka Mixon was sixth in the outdoor triple jump in 2006.

Tina Peters of Goshen (Ind.) easily won the event in a time of 14:58.96 (22-plus seconds ahead of the runner-up), while Burnett was just a milli-second away from placing in the top four. Unfortunately, Megan Furnish was able to catch and edge her in the final step, taking fourth in a time of 15:58.12, only 0.04 seconds ahead of the sophomore.

Burnett blew away her national-qualifying time of 17:36.1, accomplish in a race in Minnesota in mid-February.

Arlene Truss is the only other Indoor All-American for Penn, placing second in the shot put in 1995.
