Des Moines, Iowa - The Midwest Collegiate Conference has announced it men's soccer All-Conference honors. Twenty-nine athletes were recognized as part of the All-Conference Team as voted by the coaches; fourteen to the First Team and fifteen to the Honorable Mention Team.
For the second consecutive year, St. Ambrose senior forward Greg Lehman (Davenport, Ia.) was voted as the MCC Player of Year. Lehman lead the MCC in nearly every offensive statistical category in 2008: goals (1st - 14), goals per game (1st - 2.0), points (1st - 30), points per game (1st - 4.29), game-winning goals (3rd - 2), shots (1st - 40), and shots per game (1st - 5.71). He was named MCC Offensive Player of the Week three times this fall and led the Fighting Bees to their first NAIA Championship berth.
"Greg is the kind of player a coach gets once in a lifetime. He is a natural athlete who simply wants to score goals. He works very hard and is as likely to be found marking back on defense as striking. Beyond that, he is a genuinely good man. He works with our younger players to help them improve, he stays behind to clean out the bus after road trips, and he quietly suggests ideas to improve practices. Greg richly deserves this great honor, and I am grateful to the coaches for recognizing him," said St. Ambrose head coach Father Robert Grant.
Clarke freshman forward Dino Ramic (Pasco, Wash.) was deemed the MCC Newcomer of the Year. Ramic was among leaders in several MCC categories: goals (4th - 7), goals per game (3rd - 1.0), points (5th - 14), points per game (5th - 2.0), game-winning goals (3rd - 2), shots (6th - 27), and shots per game (4th - 2.86). He was named the MCC Offensive Player of the Week in September.
Grand View head coach Blair Reid was selected by his peers as the MCC Coach of the Year. In his 24th year at the helm of the Vikings, Reid guided his team to an 8-0 MCC record, its 11th MCC regular season title, and 9th MCC Tournament title. The Vikings will make their fifth NAIA National Championship appearance this year.
"Coach Reid continues to be one of the leaders in the coaching profession in the Midwest Collegiate Conference and NAIA. His dedication to the Men's Soccer program at Grand View and passion to see our student athletes succeed on and off the pitch is unmatched. With such high quality coaches in a very competitive conference, this honor is truly an accomplishment. Congratulations go out to him and all of the young men and assistant coaches that have helped him achieve the ‘Coach of the Year' honor. He is a very deserving recipient, "said Grand View Athletic Director Troy Plummer.
