Oskaloosa--William Penn University Athletics Director Greg Hafner has announced the hiring of Wayne Stacy as the school's new head cross country and track and field coach.

Stacy comes to Penn from Tri-State University where he served as the head women's track and field coach this spring. Prior to his time at Tri-State, Stacy was an assistant coach at Graceland University in charge of the hurdlers and throwers.

Stacy has previous head coaching experience in the state at Simpson College as the head men's and women's track and field coach from 2004-2005. While there, he served as meet director for four meets, including the Simpson Twilight that featured over 1,500 athletes.

His longest tenure came at Defiance College (Ohio) were he was head men's and women's cross country and track and field coach from 1999-2004. Under Stacy's guidance, the school claimed three Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference titles, while he earned HCAC Coach of the Year honors twice for women's track and field and once for women's cross country.

Stacy's first collegiate coaching stint landed him at his alma mater, Wilmington College (Ohio), where he was an assistant coach from 1998-1999.

During his career, Stacy has guided 24 NCAA national qualifiers and five NAIA national qualifiers (two All-Americans).

"Coach Stacy brings a great deal of coaching experience to our cross country and track and field programs," Hafner said. "He has coached in Iowa and is anxious to recruit student-athletes from this region."

"I am very excited about the opportunity of coaching at William Penn," Stacy said. "The addition of the Penn Activity Center and the other facility expansions makes it a great place to be."

Stacy did his undergraduate work at Wilmington, graduating in 1991 with a degree in criminal justice and minors in history and political science. He then received his Master's in Education from Defiance in 2003.

A tremendous collegiate athlete at Wilmington, Stacy was an NAIA All-American in football and an NAIA national track qualifier in the decathlon, discus, and 55-meter/60-yard dash.
