Des Moines, Ia. – The Midwest Collegiate Conference announced its 2008 softball all-conference honors. Thirty-six athletes were recognized as part of the all-conference teams as voted by the coaches.

Grand View College senior catcher Paige Jensen (West Des Moines, Ia.) was voted as the MCC Player of the Year. Jensen batted .565 in conference play with 39 hits, 22 runs, 13 doubles, 10 home runs, and 31 RBIs, and struck out just three times in 22 games. She was an MCC All-Conference selection in 2007 and was named MCC Player of the Week this spring.

"This is a well-deserved honor for Paige. We have asked her to be a team leader off the field and behind the plate. She has worked extra hard to be a leader in those areas. Paige would not be able to have this recognition without the strong support of her teammates," said Grand View head coach Lou A. Yacinich.

Waldorf College pitcher Chelsey Dougherty (Belmond, Ia.) was voted the MCC Pitcher of the Year. Dougherty was 22-5 in MCC play with an ERA of 1.15. She recorded 233 strike outs in 163.1 innings pitched.

"Chelsey has shown a lot of improvement since her freshman year. She has been a dominant force in the circle and consistent throughout the conference season," said Waldorf head coach Denny Gilbertson.

Waldorf head coach Denny Gilbertson was selected by his peers as the MCC Coach of the Year. Gilbertson is in his sixteenth season as head coach of the Warriors. He led his team to a 23-5 record in MCC play and the program's fifth consecutive MCC title.

"Denny has given us superb leadership with our softball program. He is a good recruiter, a good technician, and gets the most out of his players. We our proud of the achievements of our softball program under Denny," said Waldorf athletic director Denny Jerome.
