Forest City--William Penn linkster
Cole Reiman (Sr., Carroll, Central) capped off his collegiate career in fine fashion as he claimed the individual medalist honor at the season-ending Midwest Collegiate Conference Championships Saturday and Sunday.
Reiman used steady play to top the 45-player field at the par-71 Bear Creek Golf Course. He tallied a one-over score of 72 on Saturday and then shot a one-under 70 to finish at an even 142, three strokes ahead of runner-up Adam Lindsay of Iowa Wesleyan (69-76).
Other all-MCC Tournament players (top five, including ties) included Jordan Crampton of Iowa Wesleyan, Brett Nymeyer of Waldorf, and Dusty Drenth of St. Ambrose, all of whom tied at four-over 146.
The individual title is the first for Penn since Jason Van Mersberger won the Mount St. Clare Invitational on September 18, 2002. It is also the first conference medalist honor for the program since Roger Metzger won the Iowa Conference crown in 1976 and the fifth overall league title in school history.
As a team, Penn finished fourth out of nine squads with a final tally of 605 (300-305; +37). St. Ambrose defended its league crown with a score of 592 (299-293; +24), while Iowa Wesleyan was a very close second at 596 (296-300; +28).
The team finish is arguably the best for the Statesmen program at the conference tournament since the University joined the MCC in 2001. Penn also placed fourth among seven teams in 2003 and was as high as third among four teams in 2002.
Nik Rule (Jr., Idaho Falls, Idaho, Skyline HS) just missed being in the top ten as he tied for 11th at 150 (76-74).
Tyler Johnson (Sr., Ledyard, Central) and Nick Powell (Sr., Oskaloosa, Indian Hills CC) also concluded their Penn careers Sunday. Johnson tied for 26th at 156 (81-75), while Powell was 32nd at 158 (76-82).
Joel Stevenson (Fr., Pella, Pella Christian HS) concluded the team's scoring by finishing 37th at 166 (85-81).
