CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Former men’s golf and soccer standout Eddie Wynne ’00 will be inducted into the Mount Mercy College Athletics Hall of Fame on Saturday as part of the College’s alumni games weekend. Wynne, from White Bear Lake, Minn., was one of the top golfers in school history. He was the Midwest Classic Conference Medalist and Player of the Year in 1997 and 1998, a three-time all-conference performer, and three-time team Most Valuable Player. Wynne’s 76.43 career scoring average ranks second all-time and includes two of the best seasons in school history. He averaged 74.20 strokes per round in 1998-99, which is second all-time, and 75.85 in 1997-98, which is fifth in school history. His 6-under-par 66 at the Amana Colonies Golf Course is the second-best round by a Mount Mercy men’s golfer, and Wynne’s 4-under 68 at Pleasant Valley Golf Course is fourth all-time. Despite the fact that the golf and soccer seasons overlapped, Wynne was honorable mention all-conference on the pitch as well in 1999. He ranks seventh in school history in career goals (14), eighth in career points (37), and 14th in career assists (9). Mount Mercy’s alumni games and Hall of Fame celebration begins at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday with alumni soccer, basketball, and volleyball games at Hennessey Recreation Center. The Hall of Fame Dinner and induction ceremony is at 7:00 p.m. at Elmcrest Country Club in Cedar Rapids. |
