After 34 years of teaching and coaching volleyball, Waldorf ‘s Jody Dosser has announced her retirement as head volleyball coach and associate professor of physical education effective at the end of the 2008 spring semester.

For Dosser, the decision to retire was not an easy one.  “This was a difficult decision for me,” said Jody.  “However, as our life journey has changed, I feel this is the path for me.  It had always been my goal to return to Waldorf as an educator and coach, and it has been great working with the faculty, staff, students, coaching staff, and volleyball ladies past and present.”

Dosser coached the Waldorf squad for seven seasons after a 27-year career at Osage High School.  Her Warrior team saved their best for last, capturing the Midwest Collegiate Conference Tournament title last fall, and posting a record of 19-9.  Under her reign, Waldorf earned runner-up honors at the 2005 Conference Tournament, reached the semi-finals in 2006, and advanced to two Region VII Tournaments.  Jody’s overall match record at Waldorf was 137-135.

Prior to her arrival at Waldorf, Dosser amassed a record of 697-384-48 in 27 seasons at Osage High.  Her teams won 17 North Iowa Conference titles, and advanced to the Iowa State Tournament 10 times.

Although 834 career match victories is a phenomenal feat, Dosser’s legacy extends well beyond the volleyball court.  Dosser and her Waldorf team have been leaders in community service, touching thousands of lives with their work for such causes as the Winnebago Food Bank, Breast Cancer Awareness, Rotary International – Nicaragua’s Children of the Dump, YMCA Youth Volleyball, Good Samaritan Center, YMCA Morning Program, SCORE International, Lions Club Eye Bank, and the Iowa Donor Network.

“Waldorf has been great to our family,” added Dosser.  “Our son, Jermiah, received an excellent education as a CIS major which allowed him to get a job at the corporate office of EMC Insurance Companies.  My husband, Rick, and I met at Waldorf.  The high standards, expectations, dedication, and commitment shown by everyone here is unmatched.”

Waldorf Athletic Director, Denny Jerome, is very appreciative of Dosser’s contributions to the Warrior volleyball program.  “Jody has always operated her program with the utmost class.  In her seven years of service to Waldorf, Jody has given us strong leadership and a compassion to serve her students and athletes.”

A search for Coach Dosser’s replacement will begin immediately.
