The Midwest Collegiate Conference will be represented by four individuals at the NAIA Cross Country National Championships on November 17th in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Mount Mercy College will be sending senior Katie Larsen and sophomore Mallory Marshall to compete in the women’s 5k race in Kenosha. Larsen and Marshall finished in 8th and 10th place respectively at the Region VII Championships on November 3rd. This will be both Larsen’s and Marshall’s second consecutive trip to the National Championships.
Mount Mercy head coach, Ryan Scheckel, had this to say about his two national qualifiers, “It’s great to see two individuals that work as hard as they do, year round, to be rewarded with their second straight appearance at the national meet. Both runners set their goals early in the season, for Larsen, it took a personal best to do it. The two of them are excited to represent their school and conference at the national level.”
On the men’s side, the MCC will be represented by St. Ambrose University sophomore Cliff Miles and Grand View College junior Brandon Bond. Miles and Bond finished in 9th and 10th place respectively at the Region VII Championships to qualify for the national meet. Miles was the 2007 MCC Harrier of the Year and will make his first appearance at the NAIA National Championships. Bond was this year’s MCC runner-up and he will also make his debut at the national meet.
“Brandon is one of the hardest working individuals I have ever coached. He was really determined to qualify for the national meet. I’m excited to watch him represent Grand View and the MCC in Kenosha,” said Grand View head coach Jerry Monner.
St. Ambrose head coach Dan Zeimet praised both men’s national qualifiers. “Cliff ran a solid race and after falling just short of qualifying his freshman year, I’m proud to see him advance to the national championship race. It was great to see both him and Grand View’s Brandon Bond run their best race of the year at the regional meet. Go MCC!”
