DES MOINES, Iowa - On Wednesday (Jan. 18), AIB junior Caitlin Hagarty (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls) solidified an already outstanding career with the AIB College of Business women's basketball team, becoming the first player in AIB history to score 1,000 points.

Needing just nine points entering the game against William Penn University Wednesday, Jan. 18, her layup with 6:37 remaining in the 69-58 loss gave her the milestone. Hagarty currently holds the school record with 1,029 career points.

"Being the first player in AIB history to score 1,000 points is so amazing for me," said Hagarty. "When you work so hard for something, it is a great feeling. Then to receive a standing ovation from the entire gym, that put a little spark back into my game."

Jerry Kindhart, who was responsible for recruiting Hagarty to campus, praised her accomplishment.

"Having Caitlin achieve such an honor speaks to her dedication and commitment to the women's basketball program at AIB," Kindhart said. "From the minute I recruited Caitlin, I knew she would bring great things to our team, both on the court and in the classroom."

Hagarty has played in a school-record 79 games over three seasons. As a freshman, she scored 287 points, averaging 9.9 per contest. She followed that with 465 points last season, and she currently totals 277 this season. A well-rounded player, Hagarty also leads the Eagles career chart in rebounds (575) and steals (257), and she ranks second in assists (204) and third in blocked shots (48).

Hagarty currently leads the Eagles in scoring with 13.9 points per game and adds 6.3 rebounds and 2.9 assists per contest. For her career, Hagarty averages 13.0 points and 7.3 rebounds over 79 games played. She had a career-high 29 points last season against Grand View University.

Hagarty is majoring in Business Administration. She maintains a 3.75 cumulative grade point average and is a member of the Dean's List.

"As a new athletic program, it is so exciting to see a great student-athlete such as Caitlin achieve such an honor in fewer than three complete seasons," said AIB Athletics Director Terry Wilson. "This is something that we, as a department, can build on and use to show future student-athletes what success at AIB looks like."
