As the 2011-12 college basketball season hits the midway point, the Midwest Collegiate Conference is well represented in the individual statistical rankings in NAIA Division II.

MCC women's basketball teams boast a pair of national leaders in individual statistical categories in the latest NAIA statistics. Going into games on Jan. 11, Grand View junior Jennifer Jorgensen is the leading scorer in the country, averaging 23.4 points per game. Iowa Wesleyan senior Anna Jones also ranks as the nation's leaders in steals, averaging 3.9 steals per game.

A number of other women are in the top five nationally, including Jorgensen, who is third in the country in steals at 3.8 per game. Mount Mercy senior Emily Greiner is third in three-point field goals made (57) and fourth in three-pointers made per game (3.4). Grand View's Morgan Hamner is third in NAIA D-II in field goal percentage (60.1%), while St. Ambrose senior Annie Smith (2.8 blocks per game), Clarke freshman Anna Hahn (88.2% on free throws), Ashford freshman Madison Wagner (45.5% on 3-point FG) and William Penn sophomore Orielle Thomas (11.3 rebounds per game) all rank fifth nationally in their respective categories.

On the men's side St. Ambrose freshman Nicholas Frazier leads the nation in three-point shooting percentage, hitting 54.2% of his attempts from beyond the arc. William Penn's Taylor Stoutner is second nationally in NAIA D-II in three-pointers made (67) and third in three-point field goals made per game (3.9). Iowa Wesleyan senior Jeremy Simmons also is fifth in three-pointers made per game with 3.4, and teammate Jon Umoren is fifth in the nation with 6.5 assists per game.

MCC conference play continues Wednesday night with five women's/men's doubleheaders, including Waldorf at AIB, Clarke at Iowa Wesleyan, Grand View at William Penn, Mount Mercy at St. Ambrose and Viterbo at Ashford. Mount Mercy currently leads the women's standings with a 5-0 league mark, followed one game behind by Grand View and Viterbo. St. Ambrose paces a jumbled pack on the men's side, with the Bees' 4-1 MCC record one game better than four teams tied for second at 3-2. Eight of the ten teams on the men's side enter Wednesday night games with records of 3-2 or 2-3 in conference play.
