MT. PLEASANT, Iowa - For the second time in three years, the Ashford University athletics department was honored with the presentation of the Midwest Collegiate Conference President's Cup following the conclusion of the league's annual athletics director meeting.
With the announcement, Ashford successfully defended the high academic honor for back-to-back years, receiving the award for the first time to close the 2009-10 academic campaign.
The award is sponsored by the Presidents from all schools within the Midwest Collegiate Conference.
"We are very proud to bring the President's Cup back to the campus of Ashford University for the second straight year," AU Athletics Director Meg Schebler said. "It's a strong testament to the investments of our coaches, faculty, staff and student-athletes. This reward represents an all-around team effort."
Schebler was presented the award at the MCC Summer athletics director's meeting was held at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant.
Ashford's 2010-11 academic year has been highlighted with eight sports programs named NAIA Scholar Teams, a new school-record 96 student-athletes selected to the Academic All-MCC Team and a new institution single-season best 21 individuals earning Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete status.
The award is sponsored by the Presidents from all schools within the Midwest Collegiate Conference. Viterbo University was the inaugural recipient in 2008-09.
"We're excited to continue our track of academic excellence and look forward to sustained excellence in 2011-12," Schebler added.
